Greetings and Salutations, Blog Readers!
Today we are talking about my Dungeons and Dragons group, and we can basically call this an Attitude of Gratitude blog post, because it is all about how grateful and happy I am to have found such a great little group!!
First, a little history!
I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons, or DnD, since I was 10 or 11- So I have been searching for a good group to play with since…. oh wow that’s a long time.
I have had groups that were okay, but I had to act as the Dungeon Master (DM), which sucked, because then you aren’t playing.
I have had groups where I can play, but the group itself was full of assholes, who were often sexist jerks who would only pause their mansplaining to hit on me.
And they weren’t even the attractive, sweet nerdy boys you hope hit on you at DnD. I’m talking rude, smelly, obnoxious, and not even good at video games, kind of jerks.
Pass.
So, my friend JT and I have talked about playing DnD sometime, pretty much since we met at work, but I didn’t have any friends who would play, or that I would want to play with, and his group of friends weren’t playing.
And then he asked if I wanted to play- it was playing a newer version I am not familiar with, and with people I don’t know, but JT and I get along well, and his friends, from the stories he had told me, seemed fun enough, so, I figured what the fuck, let’s play.
JT guided me through creating a character, and I made a Human Druid Rogue, named Sativa Lavender Wildflower, who became a rogue when the local government banned her namesake plant, Sativa.
Then, we set a date, and agreed on a time, and, with JT driving, we went to DnD.
Then I got the distinct pleasure to meet Travis, our DM, who graciously offers up his home for us to play in, and Matt, a taller man who actually can eat more than I do. (Hard to believe, but he eats faster and larger portions than me, and is always down to eat, just like I am.)
With JT and I, we had a group of four, but Travis was DMing, which means he can’t play a character, not really anyways.
A few weeks into our awesome game play, we gained a fourth character, in Matt’s nice friend Castro, who I have played with twice now. Castro is a nice guy, playing a paladin, which seems fitting for his personality.
With JT’s character being a massive tinkerer, and JT being creative in general, we have been able to create a neat bunch of stuff for a fun game, and the party now has a manor we turned into a inn and tavern, and I have bred legal sativa vines. With magic item creation, I have made a bunch of these pots of plants magical, so they can entangle anyone who tries to break in.
I won’t go into the story line, yet, but I may in another blog, so if you like this sort of content, let me know. It won’t really change what I do, because I just do this blog for me, but I do like to know if people like stuff I like, because that is how connections are made and forged.
So, the gang is pretty awesome, and have quickly become close friends of mine. Travis and I even have a Snapchat streak. (if you want one, let me know when you follow me on Snap- I take my streaks very seriously. @abbigrasso is my name there) Travis also graciously took the picture for the cover of this blog, a top notch picture of one of my figurines for my character. He’s a cool dude, and we are working on a binge of several nerdy programs and movies, starting with The Hobbit movies, this evening.
Anyways, I don’t have much of a point to this blog other than to say I have finally started playing DnD again, I found an amazing group to play with, and since this blog will be scheduled to go up on Friday, I can say…I am playing DnD tomorrow.
Thanks for reading,
Abbi
